Treatment of Destructive Behavior in Adults with DD/ID: Use of LGA
Severe destructive behavior is at times demonstrated in adults with developmental disabilities. It is important to document the efficacy of interventions/treatments selected to treat that behavior. Not demonstrating efficacy can lead to psychotropic polypharmacy and preventable drug toxicity.
Hypercalciuria in Adults with Developmental Disabilities: A Common Medical Condition
Hypercalciuria (excessive urinary excretion of calcium) is probably common in adults with developmental disabilities. This may increase the risk for kidney stones, renal damage, as well as loss of bone mineral density and fracture. Hypercalciuria may improve when vitamin D deficiency is corrected and also with use of thiazide diuretics.
Determination of Efficacy of Treatment of Chronic Medical Conditions with LGA
Longitudinal Graphic Analysis (LGA) is a powerful way to determine and document efficacy of treatments for chronic medical conditions frequently encountered in adults with disabilities, especially those with medically complex developmental disabilities (MCDD). The system of LGA can be useful for clinicians as well as administrators who wish to improve quality of health services for all persons with chronic conditions.
Introduction to Neurodisabilities Medicine: 5 Concepts
Neurodisabilities Medicine refers to the practice of the medical evaluation and management of adults with chronic brain dysfunction due to many different causes. There are certain concepts that have been found to be helpful in organizing the health professional clinical approch to these medically complex patients.
Periodontal Disease in Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Periodontal disease is very common in adults with developmental disabilities (ID/DD). There may be many "medical" consequences to untreated periodontal disease such as coronary artery disease, aspiration pneumonia, and poor control of diabetes mellitus, The primary care physician can play an important role by ensuring appropriate Dental referral and followup.

Basic Behavior Evaluation in Adults with Developmental Disabilities

The 7 different categories of Causes of Destructive Behavior are discussed (Environmental, Personality, Medical Illness, Drugs, Psychiatric Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Syndrome, and Specific Brain Abnormality) are discussed. Treatment issues are covered as well.

Our Vision

IFCD develops and promotes collaborative relationships among those involved in the healthcare, education, and research of those health conditions frequently encountered in adults with both childhood-onset and adult-onset chronic health conditions.
