Periodontal Disease in Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Periodontal disease is very common in adults with developmental disabilities (ID/DD). There may be many "medical" consequences to untreated periodontal disease such as coronary artery disease, aspiration pneumonia, and poor control of diabetes mellitus, The primary care physician can play an important role by ensuring appropriate Dental referral and followup.

Our Vision

IFCD develops and promotes collaborative relationships among those involved in the healthcare, education, and research of those health conditions frequently encountered in adults with both childhood-onset and adult-onset chronic health conditions.
